CORE COMPETENCY ORGANIZATIONAL ENGAGEMENT: This presentation will provide a brief overview of the continuously changing legal issues colleges are currently facing for the undocumented students from sanctuary campus consideration and DACA issues, to ICE raids and audits. It is uncertain exactly what the federal government will ultimately decide regarding illegal immigration reform and DACA students in the coming months. This session will provide the most current update and offer suggestions/advice on how to be best prepared to properly assist your undocumented students and remain compliant with the laws. It will discuss possible conflicts with federal and state laws that colleges must comply with.


As a result of participating in this session, attendees will have a better understanding of key definitions used by the government for sanctuary and DACA, learn the latest status of government regulations on illegal immigration as it pertains to DACA, students and DREAMers, be able to ensure FERPA and other rights are protected for undocumented persons on your campus, and have a better understanding of how to properly respond to enforcement actions. Attendees will also learn possible consequences of declaration as a sanctuary campus, considerations for student travels (e.g., athletics, choir), and what you should know in advance of ICE arriving on your campus. Lastly, the attendees will receive additional resources available to help undocumented persons.
